We had an amazing time painting at Plaza Walls Mural Expo in Oklahoma City for their 10 year anniversary ! 🎉

We got to meet and reconnect with so many artists and Oklahomies, the best! In a world that sometimes feels like it’s lost its way, this week has been filled with hope, connection and inspiration. The space Plaza Walls has created in the thriving Plaza District of Oklahoma City is one that every city needs. A place that welcomes all to create and enjoy public art and share in a vision of a brighter world, and the folks who are here making that happen are truly amazing humans, we felt so taken care of! 🙏

Our piece titled Three Sisters 🌽 Sisters Rising is a collaboration by Few & Far featuring Ursula X Young, Agana & LaMakina510 and honors our Indigenous sisters, raising awareness about MMIW and other issues impacting Indigenous communities (and all of us) but also celebrating the women who are working towards positive changes for the world.

Disproportionately large numbers of Native women go missing, or are murdered in the US, with many of those cases unreported, unsolved or ignored. This issue is fundamentally connected to immigration issues too, through the vulnerabilities created by data erasure and invisibility, border policies and tribal sovereignty, forced migration and other exploitations of Indigenous communities.

While in Oklahoma we met Amy, who is native Seminole and Muscogee and whose profound speech at the start of the artist dinner really nailed it - that many of the struggles for human rights in the world are interconnected, and the importance of Solidarity right now for all marginalized communities everywhere is critical.

The central portrait is of Quannah ChasingHorse, a climate activist and Native land protector. The flowers are Indian blanket flowers that are the state flower of Oklahoma. The burning sage is used in many Indigenous traditions signifying protection, cleansing and connection to the land. The three sisters refers to the corn, the bean and the squash - an ancient traditional form of gardening; a symbiotic system of growth & support. This project sparked many thoughtful conversations, bringing a few words of intent: Solidarity, Resilience & Protection.

Again, thank you Plaza Walls for being a bright beacon of hope, community and unity (and just being fun and amazing people!) - We were absolutely honored to be part of this epic 10 year celebration! 👏🎂
